The Militant bunnies

The Militant Bunnies was a performance artwork which took place in the city centre of Lincoln, specifically around the University campus. The artwork then evolved to take the form of an archival artwork for exhibition, which displayed the performance adapted to a video artwork alongside props and artefacts from the performance itself.

The project explored gender politics in a comically exaggerated activist, spoof like performance.

The Militant Bunnies appropriated the bold and cheeky activist artwork which re-surged in the nineties following the creation of the Guerilla Girls in 1985.

In the performance, myself and collaborating artist Dom Mars strut around the city, dolled up as if for a night out, bringing under investigation what it means to 'go out ' as young women.

The performance entailed the vigilante/graffiti style pasting of posters around the city, advocating for the rights and social acceptance of all gender identities sexual orientations, women’s personal safety and men’s mental wellbeing.

The archival exhibition featured props from the performance as well as a video artwork.
