Word of mouth:DIY EXHIBItion

The Artwork:

RAVE ROOM

'Rave Room' Video artwork for TV 4 in 'Word of Mouth' exhibition. Lincoln 11 Dec 2019. This documents our performance and appropriation of a rave, bringing the dance movement into today's environment with a small invited audience in a student house.

SOCIAL BOND

This artwork demonstrated the social bond that is created through dancing together, juxtaposed by the genuine rave footage in the background, showing the raver's disconnection from each other due to drug abuse and being entranced by the music.

PARALLELS

Parallels used both found and original footage to highlight the many social and political parallels between today and in the 80s and late 90s when 'rave' was at its peak. Posing questions around the potential need to bring back rave?

SONIC ART

The DIY exhibition Word of Mouth lead the audience into a secluded and enigmatic exhibition which invites them to explore the nature of dance and the complex psychological and sociopolitical connotations which have arisen throughout history; from the dancing plagues of the 1500s to the underground rave movement in the 80s and early 90s. The artworks presented are process and product an in depth investigation into these themes including its cultural implications, origins, and the way that dance is often used to express antipathy towards the 'world order'. The unique location of word of mouth speaks to the significance of non-commercial gallery settings, and grassroots or underground gatherings.
